Currently, we have two types of smoke detectors. The most ordinary is the ionization detector. They work better than the other type which is the photoelectric sensor. In addition, ionization detectors are low-cost and require small space when installed.

Ionisation Detector

The ionization detector uses 2 plates with opposite voltages and a little number of Americium-241. A cell usually powers this voltage and are cased in a metal chamber where air can flow freely.
