Correct Way to Camp in Cold Weather

Posted by admin on January 27th, 2010

Camping in cold weather is not for those who are terrified of the cold! It can also be challenging but with the proper sleeping gear and clothing, camping in cold weather can be an exciting experience.

Packing the Correct Clothing

Clothing is most important when camping in cold weather - without the proper clothing the camping experience can be extremely poor or at worst life-threatening.

The most essential pieces of clothing to pack before going to your camp includes thermal long underwar, thermal or wool socks, ski jackets, heavy warm coats, insulated gloves, wool hats, thick turtleneck sweaters and sweat pants. Jeans are not suggested.

Layering your clothing is also a good idea when camping in cold weather, so an abundance of extra clothing should be brought with you, a good example might be long and short sleeved shirts, fleece jackets, long pants, wool scarves and extra socks. Clothing should not be skin tight when layering as loose fitting clothing can trap warm air and keep the body warmer.

Shoes and Boots

All shoes that are worn when camping should be insulated and waterproof and it is an excellent idea to avoid wearing tennis shoes or trainers because they will not provide much protection from the outdoor conditions.

Hiking boots, or rubber boots worn over shoes are a helpful option. Trousers should always be tucked inside the boots and for added protection duct tape can be taped around the trousers and the top of boots to keep out the cold and snow.

Type of Tent and Bedding to Use

The best type of tent to use at campsites in the winter is one that is designed for all weather conditions and that can be used in any seasons. The tent should be waterproof. The inside of the tent should be kept dry and with warmers.

When camping in cold weather the type of bedding is also important. If you are sleeping on the ground there should be at least two layers between the sleeping bag and the ground or an insulated padding should be used underneath the sleeping bag. To provide added warmth the sleeping bag should be fleeced-lined and a wool blanket can be used inside the sleeping bag.

It is also important to keep the head warm when camping in the cold, so it;s recommended that a hat should be worn while sleeping. Also wool socks and thermal underwear should be worn when going to bed.

Camping at in cold weather is not for everyone but for individuals who are up to the challenge and who include the proper clothing and gear, camping in the cold can be an enjoyable experience.

Why the Office Isn’t like Your Office - Team Development

Posted by admin on November 20th, 2009

Every employer should want to improve morale, improve communication between staff members and in the end increase proficiency, so why don’t more companies send their staff to take part in team development events?

Is it because some of these events can suffer because they conjure up negative connotations - many brought on by the humorous events portrayed on television shows?

Certainly, the words and wisdom of David Brent from TV’s “The Office” have forced middle management personnel to look in the mirror and wonder if that’s who they resemble.

Amongst Brent’s many, now famous, quotes the one that best summarises his thinking about working as a team reads: “There may be no ‘I’ in team, but there’s a ‘ME’ if you look hard enough”.

Fans of the show will remember the brilliant episode in which a team development expert visited their offices. Brent rapidly took control, and changed the course into basically a celebration of himself, including an interpretation of his seminal 1980s pop ballad “Free Love on the Freelove Freeway” on acoustic guitar.

Yet, in real life team development events are nothing like the cringe worthy and destructive nightmare depicted in The Office.

Many organisations across the UK now offer companies the chance to take their staff away from the office and away on a team building day.

Team building helps employees to learn and develop the tools and skills necessary to push business growth plus sustain improvement and development.

And in spite of the worldwide recession, staff development remains essential to business growth. Actually, it is even more important, as when the recession ends there will certainly be chances for the best-managed businesses to take advantage of the developing marketplace.

Team development can take a variety of forms, from in-house education to getting out into the great outdoors and undertaking adventure courses, high ropes trails and personal challenges - which will certainly inspire and be memorable for employees taking part.

All these events are fashioned to encourage staff - regardless of age or background - to work as part of a team for the common good of your company, and they all add to the common long-term goals of your business.

That’s why team development events are crucial to business growth. Just don’t copy David Brent, whose policy for hiring new staff was simple: “Avoid employing unlucky people - throw half of the pile of CVs in the bin without reading them”.

Hall was frostbitten and severely disoriented due to altitude sickness. Bahadur Sherchan returned a hero to Calgarians. With the Chinese preparing for the impending summer Olympic Games, Andrew Brash noted that the government’s actions hardly reflected the Olympic spirit. “The Chinese weren’t allowing anybody on Chomolungma or Mount Everest. They ended up commandeering it for themselves, even though Chomolungma is shared by two countries. Bahadur Sherchan and four climbing guides reached the 29,035-foot (8,850-meters) summit of the world’s highest mountain early Sunday, said Ramesh Chretri, an official with Nepal’s ministry of tourism.

“Mt Everest this year became a political pawn,” he said with some frustration.

The Chinese were flying their airplanes over Everest and had Chinese officials in Kathmandu. Further, he was all too aware of the potential dangers Mount Everest could bring. Certain parts of the climb are more dangerous than others and it is important for climbers to remain focused Min Bahadur Sherchan last attempt resulted in the rescue of Lincoln Hall, an Australian climber who was left by his team in the “death zone.”

They flexed their muscles this year all the in name of the Olympic spirit, but it was hardly spirited at all.”

The 74-year-old man from Nepal is now the oldest person to have reached the top of the Mount Everest. Min Bahadur Sherchan returned this week from Nepal after successfully climbing to the summit of Mt Everest. Climber from Nepal, 75, oldest person to conquer the summit of Chomolungma Now that Bahadur Sherchan has successfully scaled the tallest mountain in the world, he is once again ready to focus on his family. As he planned for the climb, Sherchan told reporters he wanted to inspire fellow senior citizens. He also said many Nepalese have established records on Mount Everest, so it was only fitting that the record for the oldest climber to reach the summit should also belong to a Nepali. Therefore, the decision to actualize a long-time personal goal left Andrew Brash with some internal uncertainties, he cited the political actions of China and Nepal as providing the greatest adversity he faced on his journey. This year climber Anthony Loeff is reporting the scales for Everest after he reached the peak of Kilimanjaro earlier this year.

Sherchan just 5 days away from his 77th birthday beat the age record set last year by 71-year-old Japanese teacher Katsusuke Yanagisawa.

More than 3186 people have climbed to the summit since it was first conquered in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary, who died in January, and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay.

They basically coerced the Nepali government to not allow any climbers past camp two on the Nepali side. His first found him within 226 metres of the peak when his team stopped to help a fellow mountaineer who was left for dead. One year later, Bahadur Sherchan, a University of Calgary alumni, returned to Chomolungma or Mount Everest to finish what he had started.
