Voice over jobs are not just about going into a vocal booth, saying a few lines, then going home. It is about receiving direction from various people at once, without taking it personally or getting defensive. There are real skills involved in maintaining a voice over career. These are skills that usually not everyone is born with, regardless of how nice their speaking voice may be. You have to encompass the complete package to warrant receiving your paycheck. And before you even begin your career as a full fledged voice over talent, you must first begin with voice over training and a vocal coach. This training is indispensable for anyone determined to have a career in the voice over arena.

Ultimately, once you become successful and can afford to have an in home studio, you can do voice over jobs from home. But in the beginning, there is much education to receive before you pay your dues and earn the right to work in you PJs. Anyone that has hired you as a professional voice over to read their script requires certain things in return. Although it is right that a great voice over job starts with a great script, any client will require you to record several takes changing word emphasis and speed. They will also then ask you to intuitively know which rendering to keep for the final cut.

Develop a Glossy Sound for Your Voice-over Work

Your communicating voice is one from the largest resources you have when developing an web enterprise. One can find a collection of various applications where you can use an individual’s style to improve ones own online presence and our industry design. Particularly, you can use your own words to record podcasts, add audio messages to ones own site and create audio info products. Modern technology has made the recording of your words so easy indeed. This text will debate some methods you ought to use to make those spoken messages smoother and buttery, just like those radio announcers. The very first thing you ought to do is buy a pop filter. All 3 of these usually pop into the mike, so popping into the ears of listeners also. Pops can be highly distracting when listening to an audio recording and can even deter a person’s audience from listening to any more of it. Next, it is time to start recording. It compresses the dynamic range of an individual’s audio file so the loud parts are softer while keeping the volume on the softer parts the same. The net result’s which you words sounds smoother to the crowd. I generally lower the pitch a touch also. 2nd, use the effects I have noted above to boost the sound quality of the recordings. Your audience will respect you more like a consequence.

Airboat Rides in Florida

Posted by admin on September 24th, 2008

Florida is a mass of swamps, lakes and rivers and one of the best ways of getting around in this environment is in an airboat, particularly in the Everglades. With its flat hull and large pusher airplane propellor on the back an airboat is able to ride over both land and water with minimal impact on the environment. It needs only a fraction of an inch of water under the hull.

If you are staying pretty much anywhere in Florida, particularly in Central or Southern Florida, then one of the most fun things you can do is go on a Florida airboat ride

Riding in an airboat is truly exhilarating. One minute you could be drifting slowly down a creek shrouded in mist and surrounded by tall mangrove and cypress trees festooned with Spanish Moss and the next minute you are speeding along a narrow channel cut through 8 foot high reed beds at 45 mph with the engine racing at full throttle just feet from your ears.

The highlight of our first ride was when the captain shot straight over a bank and then did a 360 degree turn without any warning. The whole experience was a bit like riding a rollercoaster but without all the ups and downs.

Once you are out in the wetlands you should get the opportunity to see a wide range of Florida wildlife in their natural habitat; anything from soft-shelled turtles, bald eagles, numerous water birds such as blue herons, cranes, egrets and anhinga and of course alligators.

Your best chances of seeing an alligator is on one of the night time airboat rides when their eyes are picked up in the light of torches shone into the darkness. Because alligators are cold blooded, they take a while to get going in the mornings particularly during the winter months so you are generally more likely to see them during the afternoons than first thing in the morning.

Most airboat companies require a reservation but some of the larger companies operate every 30 minutes throughout the day and you can often just turn up and ride. If you are planning a night trip then you definitely need to book in advance.

Types of Florida airboats

There are really two types of Florida airboat ride, the traditional style small airboats that hold a handful of people, typically up to 6 passengers and the large barge type airboats built specifically for airboat rides that can take as many as 18 to 20 passengers at a time. Both are fun to ride in but the smaller boats are more manoeuvrable and somehow you just feel more in touch with your surroundings in the traditional style airboats.

In some places you can even rent an airboat and drive it yourself though naturally they are not as fast as the real airboats.

Typical Florida airboat ride prices

Tours can range from 30 minutes up to several hours. Expect to pay around $20 for a 30 minute trip, $30-$40 for a one hour trip and $40-$60 for 90 minute trip. Children (3-12 years old) generally pay about half the adult rate and under 2s go free.

Self drive rental airboats cost about $30 per hour.

There are a lot of companies competing for business so look out for discount airboat ride coupons in visitor guides and even on the airboat companies own websites (see our Florida airboat rides directory).

Galiano Getaway

Posted by admin on September 22nd, 2008

With much anticipation, we headed out for our adventure to one of our favourite islands. We were downing our breakfast at the terminal when the call to board the ferry came. We headed out to our car where the line was already starting to move. Perfect timing or blind luck? We were on our way.

The weather was perfect and the water was calm for our trip through the Southern Gulf Islands to Galiano Island. The Queen of Cumberland, a small inter-island ferry, navigated the narrow passage past Peers Island, an island community just opposite the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal. From the ferry we could see the viewpoints on the island jewels that make up the Southern Gulf Islands. Wharburton-Pike on Saturna, Bold Bluff on Pender, the spectacular Cliff of Mount Maxwell on Salt Spring, and the Bluffs on Galiano make up the view points where you can see most of the Southern Gulf Islands and the San Juan Islands in the United States.

Often on ferry crossings Killer Whales (Orcas) pass nearby or you can see porpoise feeding in Haro Strait. The Ferry passed by Ruckles Provincial Park on Salt Spring Island. The green grassy slopes are a great place to camp. As the ferry pulled into Sturdies Bay, we had to wait momentarily as the ferry from Vancouver backed out into Active Pass. Active Pass - between Mayne and Galiano - is truly one of the most beautiful passages I have ever travelled. On one trip through the pass, we witnessed a transient Killer Whale devouring a sea lion within inches of the Ferry. It was a glimpse of raw nature that few get to see.

From the ferry terminal it was a short drive to the Woodstone Country Inn, our host for day one on Galiano. The Inn sits in a pastoral setting surrounded by lush green farmland. As you walk into the Inn you constantly realize you are in a special place. The architecture is elegant and the rooms are spacious. Gail Nielsen-Pich, the proprietor, greeted us warmly. She made us feel right at home and invited us to tea and the goodies she makes available in the lounge later in the afternoon.

Our room was spacious with a huge bed and sitting area with a fireplace. The West wall was all windows and looks over the pastures to the mountains in the distance. We had a private deck with a beautiful view of the valley.

We spent the afternoon exploring the south end of Galiano and visited a number of beaches, took in the spectacular views from the Bluffs and then drove to Retreat Cove where we explored a fascinating sandstone cave etched into the sandstone shoreline. Gail recommended the Market Café for lunch and it was excellent. If you visit the café, be sure to check out the one-of-a-kind washroom. Then, it was back to Woodstone for tea and goodies. Back in our room we enjoyed a glass of Australian Charaz and relaxed soaking up the view of the valley.

Dinner was exquisite. Potato soup with truffle oil, cucumber salad, and beef tenderloin that was to-die-for. The meal was not complete until we tasted Gail’s incredible bread pudding, undoubtedly the best bread pudding in the world. See you at breakfast!

Boat Detailing - Stainless and Chrome Cleaning

Posted by admin on September 19th, 2008

Good quality deck hardware of stainless steel or chrome is highly resistant to corrosion and the marine environment, but it still needs some maintenance if you want to keep it looking good. Make sure you offer this service if you notice small streaks of surface corrosion due to oxidation of the fasteners. This type of corrosion can be easily removed with a good metal polish. After you are done, protect it with a light coat of marine wax or a light coat of moisture displacing corrosion resistant lubricant. The wax will last longer. On aluminum fittings, polish until the applied polish turns black. Sprinkle Arm & Hammer baking soda on a rag and wipe the black right off or use mineral spirits and squirt it on and wipe it off.

Believe it or not, if you use a lemon peel, it will cut down on grime that other cleaners miss. If you think that is too strong use lemon oil that you use on cabin furniture as a substitute for stainless steel cleaner. Rubbing alcohol also works on stainless steel. When cleaning aluminum look for a grain direction. If you look close you will see it. Rub with the grain. Real bad stains can be rubbed with the shiny side of aluminum foil. Do not polish aluminum when it is 50 F or less outside as it may scratch. Do not use cleaners containing ammonia such as window cleaner as they can cause pitting.

Silver polish works fabulous on aluminum. For brass, go cheap. One tablespoon of flour, one tablespoon of salt and one tablespoon of vinegar. Apply the powder mixture with a clean damp rag and wipe off the tarnish and shine. Wash with soapy water later. If it’s a tough stain, cut a lemon in half, dust the cut end with baking soda and rub on small sections at a time. The baking soda adds the necessary mild abrasive to scrub your brass back to life. You may also use Nev-R-Dull a canister of presoaked wading which can be used to polish the aluminum and metal or Magic Mix from Valco Products in Cincinnati, OH.
